▾ What do Core level and Elective level mean?

Core level is the Assurance content relevant to Core 1. Elective level is the additional depth required for the Assurance elective, on top of Core.

So if you are writing Core 1, you need Core only. If you are taking the Assurance elective, you need both.

▾ How is the CAS reference different from the study notes?

The study notes are organised by topic and written for revision. The CAS reference is organised by standard and written for lookup — when a case names a standard and you need its objective and required procedures quickly.

They are complements, not alternatives. Most candidates taking the elective hold both.
